Participation Grade is based on the grade your child will be entering in the fall of 2024. All campers must be currently enrolled at Cincinnati Classical Academy. All camps are held at Cincinnati Classical Academy. Please enroll into camp by May 24, 2024. No refunds for cancellations less than a 14-day notice. Classical Academy reserves the right to cancel any camp with less than 50% capacity. All participants must be potty trained and can use the restroom of their own accord. All camps run Monday – Thursday each week.

Creative Writing
Grades: 6th, 7th, 8th
This course is designed for those students with a love of creating quality literature. Join us to learn how to craft compelling characters, design detailed descriptions, and plan a poignant plot. We will be analyzing examples from some of history’s greatest works in order to understand what makes a classic character, a beautiful sentence, and ultimately, a great book.

Cultivating Cursive
Grades: 2nd, 3rd, 4th
Did you know that cultivating beautiful cursive handwriting involves stimulation of the right and left hemispheres of the brain? Through kinesthetic and sensory-based modalities, children will learn the key strokes involved in cursive and apply these to forming beautiful upper and lower-case letters. Children will practice words and sentences as they build on their foundational skills.

Exploring Jane Austen’s Emma
Grades: 6th, 7th, 8th
Students will be guided through reading and discussing Jane Austen’s Emma while strengthening Socractic discussion skills.

Faux Food Fun! (Art Camp)
Grades: 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Students will work with a variety of materials including paint, felt, clay, and paper mâché to create a variety of faux (fake) food sculptures.

Foundations of English and Latin Grammar for New Students
Grades: 7th and 8th
This course will provide an opportunity for incoming 7th and 8th grade students who are new to Cincinnati Classical to receive remedial education in concepts of English and Latin grammar in order to help them assimilate more easily into their new classes. We place a big emphasis on sentence analysis (parsing) and diagramming, and if students have had no prior experience with these subjects, we highly recommend this course.

Grammar Foundations
Grades: 6th, 7th, 8th
This course will help students who struggle with grammar by reviewing the 8 Parts of Speech and key concepts regarding their functions. We will look more closely at how to distinguish between parts of speech in order to properly analyze and diagram sentences. If your student feels lost in grammar class, then this is the perfect summer camp for them.

Latin Foundations
Grades: 6th, 7th, 8th
This course will help students who struggle with Latin by first reviewing elements of English grammar in order to understand the structure of language in general. Then we will take a closer look at Latin conjugations and declensions and review sentence parsing in order to translate. If your student feels lost in Latin class, then this is the perfect summer camp for them.

Literacy Camp
Grades: 2nd and 3rd
Students will review the 42 sounds, 26 letters, and 72 phonograms that make up our English language! This course will focus on the basics of handwriting and spelling while also including elements of reading.

Math Camp

Memorable Math Games
Grades: 2nd, 3rd, 4th
Through kinesthetic and enjoyable math games, students will enhance their number sense, math facts, analytical skills, and their ability to identify patterns. Games are the perfect vehicle to help children learn and practice challenging things! Children enjoy repeating facts and procedures that are naturally part of a game. Math games will integrate all four processes to promote mathematical thinking skills. Children will be encouraged to teach you the games they enjoy to further extend their learning.

Pondering Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice
Grades: 6th, 7th, 8th

Reading & Writing Through The Sign of the Beaver
Grades: 4th, 5th
Students will be guided through reading and discussing Elizabeth George Speare’s The Sign of the Beaver. Using this novel as the main source, students will review writing skills found in IEW by completing either a three or five paragraph essay throughout the week.

Sewing Camp
Grades 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th
Both beginner and intermediate sewing students will enjoy this fun week of machine and hand stitching. Artists will take home a project at the end of the week.

Beginning Strings Orchestra Camp
Grades: 4th, 5th, 6th
An introduction to beginning a string instrument-Violin, viola, cello and bass. This class will give each student a wonderful opportunity to begin reading music using the “Essential Elements” for strings method book. Students will explore music reading by learning “pizzicato” (plucking the string) and simple bowing fundamentals through performing simple songs and exercises. A short informational concert will be given at the end of the week.

Returning Strings Orchestra Camp
Grades: 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th
Designed for students who have had at least one year of prior experience in playing a string instrument (violin, viola, cello or bass). Essential Elements Book 2 will be used to explore learning a wider range of notes, keys, and more advanced string styles and techniques. Additional string orchestra repertoire will also be performed in this class with a short concert performance at the end of the week.
