You might say that Cincinnati Classical Academy is a “Back to the Books” school. We believe in the importance of books in a child’s education. We also believe that it matters *what* our students read. In literature, that means reading and discussing the classics. Here’s a sampling of what our fifth graders will be reading next year in their literature course:
– novels such as Tom Sawyer, The Secret Garden, and The Wind in the Willows
– autobiographies such as The Narrative of Frederick Douglass
– the short stories of Sherlock Holmes
– tales from Shakespeare by Charles and Mary Lamb
– poems such as “O Captain! My Captain!” by Walt Whitman and “The Tyger” by William Blake
– Myths and legends such as The Samurai’s Daughter and The Sun Dance
