Bona Verba from the Headmaster
Cincinnati Classical Academy is elevating its commitment to parent engagement and intellectual discourse. Our enhanced monthly speaker series aims to become an integral part of the CLASSICAL community’s educational experience, fostering a deeper appreciation for classical education and providing an opportunity for some convivial conversation. We invite you to participate in this enriching initiative, where thought-provoking ideas and meaningful connections thrive.
One Tuesday each month, we cordially invite CLASSICAL parents to join us for a special reception in the Old Narthex at our Siebenthaler campus. This gathering precedes each talk in the Veritatis Splendor series, offering a unique opportunity for parents to connect, converse, and cultivate relationships within our school community.
The pre-talk gatherings serve multiple purposes beyond simple socializing. They offer a chance for intellectual engagement, allowing parents to participate in stimulating discussions that set the stage for the evening’s topic and enhance the overall experience. Moreover, these informal conversations with fellow parents and staff provide insight into our school’s mission and the principles of classical education. All of this takes place in a convivial atmosphere, complete with refreshments and food.
We’re excited to kick off this year’s series with a truly remarkable event. On Tuesday, September 24, we invite you to join us for a reception at 6:00 PM in the Old Narthex of our Siebenthaler campus, followed by the main event at 7:00 PM. Our distinguished guest, Dr. Stephen Smith from Hillsdale College, will guide us through Dante Alighieri’s masterpiece, the Divine Comedy. This event promises to be an intellectual adventure, exploring the depths of one of literature’s greatest works.
Delving into Dante’s Divine Comedy offers numerous benefits to our community of learners. As a cornerstone of Western literature, it provides invaluable insights into medieval thought, Christian theology, and timeless human experiences. Dante’s journey through Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise presents a framework for contemplating virtue, vice, and the human condition, encouraging moral and ethical reflection that remains relevant in our modern world.
The Divine Comedy is not only philosophically rich but also a work of supreme artistry. Exploring this text allows us to appreciate Dante’s poetic craft and understand its profound influence on literature and art across centuries. Despite its medieval origins, the Divine Comedy addresses universal themes of love, justice, free will, and the search for meaning—topics that continue to resonate in our lives today. This discussion aligns perfectly with our classical curriculum, offering parents a taste of the rich content their children encounter in their studies.
Participating in events like these strengthens our educational community. It creates shared intellectual experiences, providing common ground for discussions with your children about their studies. By attending these talks, parents model the importance of lifelong learning, demonstrating to our students the joy and value of continued intellectual growth. These gatherings also reinforce the educational values at the core of our mission, allowing parents to experience firsthand the depth and richness of classical education principles. Additionally, they offer valuable networking opportunities, allowing you to connect with like-minded parents who share your commitment to classical education.
We encourage all CLASSICAL parents to take advantage of this exceptional opportunity. Whether you’re a Dante enthusiast or new to the Divine Comedy, this event promises to be enlightening and engaging. Let’s come together to learn, grow, and celebrate the pursuit of knowledge that defines our school community.
